If you’re thinking about visiting South Carolina this summer on vacation you need to travel to Charleston. Charleston is chock full of Lowcountry attractions and there are hundreds of activities that you can do while practicing social distancing. Don’t let Covid-19 put a stop to your vacation plans! Head to Charleston and enjoy one of the five activities below so that you and your family can have a fun, safe vacation.

Rent a Kayak

Expedition outfitters such as Coastal Expeditions are offering kayak rentals with no-contact and excellent sanitization. When you’re out on the water you’ll be far removed from other people so this is the perfect way to social distance. If you’re more adventurous you can also rent a SUP or Stand Up Paddleboard which is a combination between surfing and paddling as you stand on the board and paddle through the water.

Sewee Shell Ring

The Sewee Shell Ring has been the target of several hurricanes and the trail through the woods showcases the damage that hurricanes can bring, but also the resilience of nature as it recovers. There’s a 120-foot boardwalk that has 5 places where you can stop and learn about the area. The boardwalk overlooks a prehistoric shell mound. The salt marshes, intercoastal waterway, trail, and boardwalk make this a great outdoor activity that the whole family can enjoy while keeping a safe distance.

Hampton Plantation

The Hampton Plantation is often empty which makes it a perfect location to visit while social distancing. Just because it isn’t filled with crowds doesn’t mean that there’s nothing to see and do here. The grounds are beautiful with some manicured gardens and a river that you can overlook. There are several hiking trails that are easy enough to be enjoyed by all ages. It’s the perfect place to pack a picnic and enjoy some quiet outdoor time with your family.

Beaches

There are several beaches in the Charleston area, the best of which is probably Folly Beach. Not only is this beach beautiful but there is a Pelican rookery, wildlife habitats, and a view of the Morris Island Lighthouse which dates back to 1876. The Folly Beach pier goes 1000 feet into the ocean providing you with space to social distance and a fantastic sea breeze at the same time. There’s also a boardwalk full of shops and restaurants; however, if it’s busy you’re better off sticking to more isolated areas such as the beach or pier.

Gibbes Museum

If you love history then you can still soak in the culture of the Gibbes Museum while social distancing. The museum has opened its doors to virtual tours. This means that you and your family can enjoy all that the museum has to offer while staying safe in your hotel room. You can even head out to one of the many natural locations in Charleston to soak up the sun while traveling through the museum’s virtual tour. The Gibbes Museum has even added a virtual tour guide who will explain each exhibit to you as you walk the virtual halls.

The list of five activities above is just the beginning of the fantastic activities that Charleston has to offer you and your family for your next vacation! Enjoy your trip to Charleston and remember to always stay safe and keep your distance.
